Wedding stationary etiquette can be a difficult subject, most couples are now moving away from the formal, traditional and strict wording of wedding invitations, particularly as many couples are funding their weddings themselves.

Here are some helpful tips and advice on what to do (and what not to do) with your wedding stationary.

Save the Dates

  • Save the Dates are a fairly new addition to wedding stationary, they have a lack of formal etiquette and they are completely optional. STDs give your guests advance warning and are particularly helpful if your wedding is in in the ‘wedding season’ or on a special day.
  • Send STDs only to those you want there for the whole day i.e. the ceremony, breakfast and reception. This does mean you need to pin down your guest list way in advance.

Wet weather weddings!

Everyone wants a sunny day for their wedding.  Picture it: not too hot, not too windy (will ruin my hair!) not too cold (will shiver in my dress) definitely no rain please!! that will ruin everything….actually just a few clouds will be nice because they will add a bit of class to our wedding photos.

If only we could all have perfect weather but unfortunately it does rain in Melbourne and not only in winter and September.  All those prospective brides and grooms out there please remember to have a plan B in case of wet weather.  Believe me as a celebrant I don’t particularly enjoy getting wet and my expensive sound equipment definitely doesn’t like it….oh and did I mention the marriage certificates don’t look great when they are wet either!!

Just give it some thought you can’t change the day but you can have another plan!

 

Commonsense Wedding Budgeting tips

‘must haves’,

‘really wants’

and ‘that’d be nice’….

Be brutal about which category they go in and then use a combination of categories to make up your perfect day with in your perfect budget….

2) have a colour palette not just a single colour – it means you can mix and match things and use shades of colours instead of being super specific on colour which ends up narrowing options – smaller options = bigger price!

First things first if you are having a small informal event or buffet don’t feel pressured into having a seating plan, it depends on your own day and the atmosphere you want to share.

Start Early – you will be surprised how much time it can take to plan your seating so don’t leave it until a week or two before the big day.

Use Table Names Not Numbers – table numbers can leave guests feeling there’s a hierarchy so use table names not numbers. You could link this to your wedding theme or location for example films, cities or even your favourite drinks.
